MF DOOM AND WU-TANG ASHTRAYS
CONCRETE ASHTRAY BRIEF
The two ashtray designs were ideas of the client who wanted to create a tribute to two of his favourite musicians, MF DOOM and WU-TANG CLAN.
To develop ideas, I made a mood board looking at the artists and the culture in which they were from, the listeners they had and materials that could be used which related to their environment.
Multiple designs were generated with CAD but after a selection process, two designs were chosen to be made.

QUALITY CONTROL
The client requested a very high quality for the ashtrays as the design and finish was meant to elevate and justify the higher then average price for a concrete product.
By sanding the 3D prints I removed imperfections and unwanted textures in the moulds and by thoroughly mixing and vibrating the concrete mix I removed any unwanted air bubbles.
To improve product quality I find as many improvements, both small and large, at each project stage to develop a more durable, higher aesthetic quality and to provide greater quality consistency between units, which ultimately saves time and money.
PACKAGING / MARKETING
To elevate the product and justify the price I decided on using wood wool packaging to enhanced the customer experience during the unboxing. In addition the contrast in natural and synthetic material makes a nice image.
