SELF-WATERING PLANTER

The self watering planter is a product responding to the increase in stress and anxiety in our modern urban environment.  One reason for this is people are cut off from plants and natural materials, which have proven soothing effects.  This product aims to combat this by making it easier to be in contact with natural objects.

The goal

The goal of this project was to reduce stress by creating more comfortable home environments through allowing houseplants to be easier to keep inside through the use of my product.

USP of design

Whilst there are many self watering products for plants they tend to be modern made of plastic and glass. The USP of this product is the use of traditional terracotta decoration with a self watering system that allows it to functionally address the issues and lets it blend better into home environments than other designs.

How it works

  1. The reservoir is filled up through a opening in the top.

  2. The water is then absorbed by the felt, which 'pulls up' moisture and onto the trays surface against gravity via capillary action.

  3. The water is then absorbed into the pots through there bases and into the plants

  4. The plants self regulate there water consumption meaning less maintenance and avoids under/over watering.
